The Prince and the Pauper By Mark Twain

The Prince and the Pauper Mark Twain Books

Can this tale be an allegory of Jesus' "life" before his birth as the son of God and the juxtaposition to being a servant until his crucifixion? I re-read the story after hearing this concept presented in a Sunday sermon.

The link of this tale to a religious concept notwithstanding, I found this to be a good read. Twain was a master with words and easily captures and maintains the reader's interest from beginning to end. The reversal in status of the Prince and the poor boy, the proverbial walk in another's shoes is a timeless moral theme that can be grasped by readers of all ages.

I will recommend this book to my book club.

The Prince and the Pauper Mark Twain Books Reviews

This was surprisingly interesting and an easy read. I'm looking forward to reading part two. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book.
Classic story that is so much better than the movie, even though Errol Flynn is fabulous to watch. Great for all ages. Well worth the time.
couldnt get into it. not my type of book but at least try to read it for yourself. you never know what u will like till u try it.
This is a really great book can't wait to read part 2 of The prince and the pauper by Mark Twain
I have been wanting to read this story again for some time now, glad to finally have the chance to - great read!
Why don't our schools make certain that we read ALL these great classics that tend to make us be better people? Isn't there a list somewhere? The books that are "required" reading in junior high and high school introduce material that introduces adult material to young minds that they don't need to ponder till much later, if at all.
Very well researched or at least highly likely sounding details of life at the two extremes of society in London in the 1500s. Both youths prompt the readers' sympathy for very different reasons but surprisingly for some similar reasons.

Skillfully portrayed by Twain as usual with interesting situations logically developed, conversations in dialect, carefully described environments.

Some doubt on total accuracy based on the sensibilities in the writer's era but a minor omission if at all.
